Royal Hartwig grew up in Lakewood, IL where he received his training at Judith Svalander School of Ballet. After studying a variety of dance styles over 11 years, Royal attended Butler University to receive his BFA in dance performance. Royal has performed lead roles such as in Paul Taylor’s Piazzolla Caldera; Gerald Arpino Light Rain; Snow King , Arabian, and Spanish in The Nutcracker; and Cynthia Pratts’s Streamlines Indianapolis, a multi-million dollar installation project combining science with the arts to promote and inform the community about the water ways on Indianapolis. Outside of Butler, he has studied with Colorado Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, The Rock School, and ABT.
